CNC Bender has a new Pressure and Force calculator for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. The new feature is found in the Tool Setup / Utilities tab menu. Tool setup cylinder.jpg

Contents

Why?

  1. This feature will allow operators to learn what pressures they are using on the tube in a setup.
  2. This feature will allow operators to re-apply the same desired pressures in future setups.
  3. This feature will allow operators to determine, with the current cylinders and pressures, if it is possible to output the kind of force they want to achieve.

About the Calculator

The two formulas allow for calculation of either Output Force or Input Pressure.

Output Force Calculator

Cylinder spec.jpg

  1. Cylinder Diameter - Enter the diameter of piston in the cylinder
  2. Rod Diameter - Enter the diameter of the cylinder rod if the die closes on the rod side of the cylinder. This reduces the area of the cylinder piston, and therefore the output force.
  3. Input Pressure - Enter the input pressure that advances the die.

CALCULATION - Output Force The OUTPUT FORCE is calculated by pressing the calculator button.

For Example:

Cylinder Diameter = 3 inches
Rod Diameter = 1 inches
Input Pressure = 1200 lbs / square inch
-----------------------------------------------------------
Calculated Force = 7539.822 lbs of pressure on the tube

Input Pressure Calculator

Input pressure calculator.jpg
This formula works like the first one, but calculates the input pressure needed to achieve the desired output force.

So if you want 2000 pounds of force on a cylinder closing a pressure die, and the cylinder piston is three inches in diameter, and the work is being done on the opposite side of the rod, then...

CALCULATION - Input Pressure

Cylinder Diameter = 3 inches
Rod Diameter = 0 inches
Output Force = 2000 lbs
-----------------------------------------------------------
Input Pressure = 282.942 lbs / square inch

Input pressure.jpg
The necessary input pressure is 238 lbs / inch2
