As of November, 2007, we have switched our backup system to Acronis True Image Workstation. This software is reasonably priced and very powerful. It is designed to create true image of your system by creating the actual partitions on your hard drive.

  • The per-license price is very reasonable compared to the competition.
  • Backups are simple to implement.
  • The backup speed is fast.
  • The backup files can be highly compressed.
  • The backup files are actual disk images and can be used to restore a Windows computer from "bare metal."
  • With the Universal Restore option, it is possible to restore to a completely different computer and hard-drive than the one backed-up.
  • The backup files can be mounted into your system as virtual hard drives. This means that you can create a new drive letter on your system that is actually a reference to one of the Acronis backups! The drive can made read-only or read-write. This feature makes restoration from an older single file or files very simple.

July 2008 - 9 Month Report

The software continues to perform very well. We have contacted tech support and customer support a few times and rate the support as the best in the industry. Acronis has released a new version of True Image Workstation software called "Echo". This is the new name for version 9.5. We are in the process of upgrading the software now and it is rather simple. We send an e-mail to [email protected] with all our serial numbers, and they send us new Echo serial numbers for software that we can download from their site.

April 2008 - 6 Month Report

This backup software was the right choice for us and I still highly recommend it. Every recovery works perfectly. We have made good use of the "Mount Image" feature which lets us boot into backup files as if they are actual drives. Being able to recover an earlier version of source has been our main use.
