Recommended Computer Specifications

  • We recommend a computer that can handle demanding CAD packages. For example, use a 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 10 on a Pentium i7 with 32 GB of RAM.
  • Recommended OS: Windows 7 Professional or Windows 10

What to Avoid

  • CRITICAL: Avoid any screen resolution that is less than 1920 x 1080 pixels.

  • SUGGESTED: Consider avoiding any video cards that are less powerful than the NVIDIA models. Some graphics cards are not only slow, but they can behave erratically with graphics objects on the screen. This is because some graphics cards have bugs in their implementation of OpenGL.

  • STRONGLY SUGGESTED: Avoid using Windows screen fonts set to any value over 100%. 125% works - but makes the program harder to use because it pushes some menu items off the bottom of the screen - requiring the use of more scroll bars to access all the data.

Disk Space Requirements

  • The program requires 100 MB of disk space (0.1 Gigabyte).
  • 100 parts require about 14 megabytes of disk space.

Example Computer Systems

FAST: Dell Precision Models

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 minimum - i9 preferred

  • Installed Memory: 32 GB minimum - 64 GB preferred

  • System Type: 64-bit, Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 preferred

  • Video card: NVIDIA (strongly recommended)

  • Hard drive: A solid-state drive (SSD) is critical. A mechanical hard drive tends to bog Windows speed down - especially if it is running Windows 10.

  • Dell Precision laptops are rugged and very fast

Highly recommended.

FASTER: Dell Precision Desktop

Dell Precision 7910 Workstation, Windows 7 Pro or Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, 500 GB solid state hard drive (SSD), 32 GB memory. (An SSD rather than mechanical hard drive is critical for speed.)

Flat Panel Monitors

We recommend 27" flat panel monitors as the MINIMUM size for measuring center monitors.

If the system must be restricted by user type using VTube-LASER's UAC (User Access Control), then only use one monitor. Otherwise you can use multiple monitors.

Some customers like to go even larger in order to allow for easy viewing by multiple operators. This B/E Aerospace installation shows a large TV. The benefit of using a TV with an HDMI cable is that the TV has built-in speakers than replace separate amplified speakers.

This setup is ideal for allowing a large group of people to view VTube-LASER at the same time.
