Ideal Setup for HD Scanner in VTube-LASER

The HD blue line scanner has increased capabilities in point density that causes us to recommend some unique settings in FARO scanner setup. These settings work very well in VTube-LASER.

You must be connected to a FARO arm to perform these steps.

STEP 1

In VTube-LASER window click on Scanner Algorithm label above the viewport window.

The alternative way to get into the FARO LLP Scanner window is to click on Measure Setup in the Navigation Pane > Arm tab > Scanner Control button.

STEP 2

Set the Scan Rates to 1/1.

  • This value will allow the laser stripes to come into VTube-LASER as quickly as the driver can send them.

Set the Scan Density to 1/16

  • This value will reduce density of the points in the laser line returned to VTube-LASER.

Since VTube-LASER removes some of points with a Maximum Number of Points Allowed in Cylinder Laser Stripe filter, it works faster if the FARO driver removes some of those points in advance. Both scanning and calculation can be many times faster.

STEP 3

Select the correct ball probe then press OK.

This step will cause the FARO driver to report back to VTube the new probe. The FARO driver should always remember the last ball probe that you set to "Current Probe" in the pulldown box. This is true even if you shutdown VTube-LASER and the FARO arm.

STEP 4

Press the Close button in the FARO Arm Utilities window.

STEP 5

Observe that the new ball probe selection will appear in the Arm grid.
